Work of ultrasound tech is to generate images of patient’s internal organs, tissues, blood flow by using transducers and high frequency sound waves. Ultrasound tech are employed in clinics, hospitals, imaging centers etc. They even have opportunities in field of education and research. They can become specialist in fields of abdominal(pancreas, spleen, liver, kidney), breast,vascular technology,Gynecology,eye(ophthalmology). For increasing chances of employ ability, it is very crucial to complete a vocational course from a recognized institute.one must do the entire course thoroughly.Programs of sonography are offered at very level, ranging from certificate programs, Associate programs,Bachelors degree to masters degree. in addition to universities and medical colleges, private colleges also offer ultrasound programs. After completing the course, one should register with ARDMS(American Radiological and Diagnostic Medical sonographer)Association.this registration is not mandatory in states but registering will definitely increase chances of good job with good income.
Salary of ultrasound tech varies with the type of work setting, education,location,health care facility and experience including specializations.
Ultrasound technician with one year of experience can earn $65,000 annually. And wage per hour varies from $15 to$18.Though,at entry level income will be low but with experience and specialization, income will increase.
There will always be demand of Ultrasound tech in health industry. this job offers flexibility in working hours but there may some unscheduled call by office sometimes.
